Tiffany Studios New York "Lily Pad" Table Lamp
SOLD
The Tiffany Studios New York "Lily Pad" exemplifies a harmonious blend of simple design and complex textural selections. The water is rendered in opalescent glass with gossamer-like streaks of amber and moss green, conjuring the impression of algae gently drifting on the pond's surface. The lilypads exhibit a color spectrum ranging from viridian with rose hues at the top of the shade to emerald tones at the bottom, skillfully creating the illusion of atmospheric perspective. The emergence of pink tones in the lilypads mirrors a natural phenomenon: the reddish-purple undersides of the leaves cause them to appear pink as they gradually thin towards their edges. The border of the lilypad shade are comprised of emerald ripple glass while the tendrils of the twisted vine base extend radially to hold up the shade.

This rare shade reveals the designer’s clever use of perspective in handling the lily pads. While the artist’s forking angle foreshortens all those at the lower edge, turning them into ovals and ellipses, their true roundness is observed in the upper reaches of the shade. One, right off-center, has an edge uplifted as if caught in a gust of wind.
