Boulder Opal and Multi-Color Garnet Necklace
This three-tiered antique gold necklace is both elegant and original, with multiple chains and swags that make up a draping fringe, suspending a rare variety of boulder opal beads. A favorite of Art Nouveau jewelers exploring phenomena of light, the boulder opal displays a mysterious play-of-color enhanced by its base of rich ironstone. The hot spectral colors of boulder opals are echoed in the small pools of glittering orange tangerine, vibrant pink, and yellow-green fire provided by the garnets. Flexibly modeled to drape over the neck and collarbone, this jewel—by an unknown maker—is a beautiful fusion of artistic vision and nature.
