Louis Comfort Tiffany had a particular fondness for the dogwood, appreciating it both as a tree species and as a decorative motif. He often chose the native Cornus florida variety for inspiration. Reflecting on the grounds of his estate, The Briars, he described the tree’s white springtime flowers as something that "brightens things." Tiffany Studios frequently used dogwood as a motif in their leaded glass designs, with the flower being one of the earliest floral subjects to feature in their work. Notably, a dogwood design appeared as a hanging shade in the studio's 1899 catalog. This enduring motif underscores Tiffany Studios' commitment to blending artistic innovation with the natural beauty that inspired their designs.
