Couture and fabric has been a leitmotif in the jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels from its early days. The firm's homage to Parisian haute couture and textiles has taken many forms over the years. In some of their celebrated work, they have persuaded platinum and gold to imitate lace, tulle, tassels, linen, and twisted threads as well as forms like zippers, bows, ruffled pochettes, tassels, and collarettes. In this extraordinary bracelet, the textile metaphor is extended to a sensation of suppleness and extreme flexibility, where metal and rubies offer the unmistakable feeling of a heavy piece of exquisite brocade, so malleable that it can be rolled, twisted or tied in a knot.
